You may have heard the saying “Do as I say and not what I do” as a child or even said that to your own child. In many cases it is suitable and get’s your point across. However with regards to visiting the dentist it does not work so well. Children more likely to visit the dentist if their parents do so too.
Whether or not children receive regular dental care is strongly associated with their parents’ history of seeking dental care themselves. According to the report that appear in the journal Pediatrics. Parents who do not see a dentist themselves have children which are much less likely to see the dentist.
The study found that the children of parents who have put off their own dental care for financial reasons are more likely to have their dental care deferred due to cost as well.
