Consulate Dental Plans, Individual Delta Dental Plans in Florida.
Question: I notice that Delta dental offer a free choice of dental provider plan as well as a lower cost dental HMO plan. They both seem to over them to individual and their family. Which is what I am looking for since I am a individual with two children and we need dental insurance I am just not sure which plan type is the best to get in the long run. Which saves the most money on dental care services since it will be a plan I will be keeping for a few years.
Answer: Either way you choose to go Delta Dental offers good plans. The real question would be depend on what you are looking for in a plan. Putting aside cost of the plan since that is shown and I am assuming that is not an issue for you. In determining what plan type is best for you ask yourself a few questions.
1) Are you wanting to stay with or see a particular dentist ? If so then Delta Dental PPO or Free choice of dental provider plan may work better for you to keep your own dentist.
2) Are you willing to choose a dentist within a dental work of providers. If so then Delta Dental HMO plan might be a better choice. Keeping in mind that you have to choose a dentist within an HMO provider list. There is no outside network coverages available like there is with most PPO plans.
3) Can you afford to wait out waiting periods? Delta Dental PPP’s and Free choice of provider plans come with long term waiting periods for both basic and major dental care services. Therefore if you are waiting a filling you are waiting six months like wise if you are needing a crown you are having to wait 12 months before the plan will provide coverages on those types of services.
4) Do you want a plan without waiting periods for dental services. If so you would want to review their HMO dental insurance plan as that plan type does not have waiting periods or yearly dollar max limitations per person.
By braking down your own dental needs you will be able to determine what is best for you and your family dental care needs.
